The idea is to gather scientists, technologists and any interested people to discuss about the entanglements of thermal baths, medicine and technology, during a special conference whose name was taken from Latin following the SPA acronym: "Salus Per Aquam, Ingenii Gratia" (SPA: thanks to engineering).

The Congress aims at the creation of a robust, durable, knowledgeable and sound link between the identity heritage of Western Switzerland in terms of traditional culture, sensations, sport, leisure, emotions, rurality, and the equally important advanced applied research tissue so to empower and sustain even more the economic development of the region.

CALL FOR PAPERS

PAPERS SUBMISSION DEADLINE: August 31, 2016

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

TIPS FOR WRITING A MEMORABLE PAPER

All papers and contributions to the Conference will pass a peer-review process. During this screening, having your submitted paper rejected is much simpler than having it accepted, so please read the following before submitting:

How to get your paper rejected in ten easy steps:

  1. Do not put theorems or numbers (instead of presenting real theoretical and/or practical substance)
  2. Do not highlight a relevant problem (instead of presenting the importance of the topic)
  3. Do not explain the novelty (rather than putting it into evidence and letting the readers understand it)
  4. Do not discuss related work (as you are not alone on this planet it is likely that other people already made some reasonable advancement which the readers would enjoy to compare with yours)
  5. Do not put your solution in perspective (remember you might be wrong, so please use criticism on your own findings)
  6. Do not explain the non-triviality (on the contrary please show that even if your solution may appear simple, indeed it is not trivial and it took a hard work to be found)
  7. Do not focus on one main result (instead of staying on a single precise point)
  8. Do not give useful facts (rather going straight to the point which matters to the readers)
  9. Do not write for outsiders (instead of trying to educate the reader which might be not a super-expert in that field)
  10. Do not take care to format (instead of being meticulous on language, references, style, pages number and against typos

In the lucky event of your paper having been accepted, please carefully read the following:

How to send your audience to sleep in five easy moves:

  1. Fill up your slides with lot of small size text (instead of one or two well visible and focused sentences)
  2. Include lots of mixed styles, clipart, small text tables and stupid animations which will detract the audience from what you are saying (rather than support it)
  3. Don't let the audience understand why they are there (instead of presenting the overview of your speech and explaining why the topic is important for them and how it might change their lives)
  4. Talk to the audience like an audio recorder, or a parrot, should do (instead of letting your personality shine through)
  5. Don't stop talking for even a single second (instead of giving pauses during which the audience will have time to think and appreciate what you just said)

Located in the heart of a natural setting formed by the Jura Mountains, the plains of the Orbe, the hills of the Broye and Lake Neuchâtel, Yverdon-les-Bains is the second most important town in the Canton of Vaud. Famous for its thermalism springs and an important regional centre for commerce and tourism, Yverdon-les-Bains is only 90 km by rail or motorway from the international airport of Geneva and 200 km from Zurich airport. From Yverdon-les-Bains railway station take bus number 602 (direction Parc Scientifique or Ch. de la Chèvre), get off at Av. des Sciences bus stop (11 minutes run; tickets to buy at the ticket machine on the platform or from the driver on boarding the bus).

VISAS

Should you need a visa for entering Switzerland, then please ask for a formal invitation letter. Please be advised that the visa issueing process may take quite a long time. Contact as early as possible your nearest Swiss Embassy.

GRANTS

Very few grants may be available for students or researchers coming from overseas and presenting a paper. Please don't ask for a grant until there is no announcement about that on the website! Instructions will follow.

LODGING

Although the month of November is clearly not high season, nevertheless you may encounter difficulties in booking the accommodation you desire. The early bird principle is always valid and we strongly advise you to book your chamber in due time (not later than June or July). We have already alerted the following hotels in Yverdon-les-Bains but they will not retain pre-reservations for us after July 2016!

Anyway you might be interested in other possibilities for lodging in Yverdon-les-Bains and around.
So you may have a look at the following:

Hei!  Don't miss a plunge at the baths !!!
An open air pool with warm water full of
vapour is waiting for you.

Exceptional experience in winter-time!
